About Brian McCormack
Brian McCormack has over 30 years of experience in higher education, he brings a unique blend of academic insight and compassionate care to his counseling practice. After earning a Ph.D. in History from the University of California, San Diego, Brian spent much of his early career in academia, where he found joy in mentoring and supporting students through both academic and personal challenges. This experience deepened his understanding of life’s struggles and the power of compassionate support.
Motivated by the positive impact he had in helping students overcome their challenges, Brian completed a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on Clinical Mental Health Counseling. This transition enabled him to provide more direct support, offering insight and compassionate care as a therapist. Brian’s therapeutic approach blends person-centered therapy to create a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard and valued. Drawing on cognitive behavioral strategies, he helps challenge negative thought patterns, while humanistic and existential approaches encourage exploration of life’s deeper meaning. His trauma-informed care recognizes the impact of past experiences and supports healing with compassion.
Using these approaches, Brian works with individuals navigating a range of challenges, including autism, ADHD, major life transitions, and relationship issues. His therapeutic style provides a safe, nonjudgmental space for growth and healing. He is particularly passionate about working with LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent individuals, as he believes in creating an environment where everyone feels empowered to embrace their authentic selves.
